Joe Guthrie, Strategic Advisor
Joe Guthrie is an agricultural leader, educator, and sixth-generation Virginia farmer who served as Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services from January 2022 through January 2026. He was appointed as Virginia’s 18th Commissioner, overseeing the Commonwealth’s agricultural economy, consumer protection programs, and regulatory operations during a four-year term. He served for 15 years as a faculty member in Virginia Tech’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, where he taught agricultural business management, leadership, and communications.
Joe owns and operates a beef cattle and hay farm in Pulaski County, Virginia, with more than 20 years of experience as a farm owner and operator. He recently established his own consulting company, Wexford Oaks, based in Richmond, VA.
His public service includes election to local office in three consecutive elections, serving on both the Pulaski County School Board and the Pulaski County Board of Supervisors, including leadership roles. Throughout his career, Guthrie has held leadership positions in state and national agricultural organizations and is known for his strong working relationships with legislators and industry leaders across Virginia and the U.S.
